Injection molding is an injection molding machine (common injection molding machine or horizontal injection molding machine) to spray the heated molten material into the mold and get the molded products by cooling and curing. It is one of the most important processes in the molding process of plastic products.
Injection molding is developed based on the principle of metal die casting. In 1872, the Hyatt brothers took the lead in the invention of the plastic injection molding machine based on the patent of John Smith and Jesse Locke on injection metal castings in 1870. This machine was operated in an American fiber factory for decades and used to injecting simple shaped products. It was the prototype of the plunger injection molding machine. In 1904, E.L.Gaylord declared a patent for injection processing technology for the manufacture of amber products, an early injection molding machine.
In 1919, A.Eichengruen discovered the processing conditions for the injection of cellulose resin into a complex product. In 1926, L.E.Shaw invented the transfer molding process, originally used for the processing of thermosetting resins, based on which a jet injection molding machine used for thermosetting resins was invented. In 1932, H.Gastrow made a major improvement in the introduction of a torpedo core in the melting zone of the injection molding machine, a streamlined torpedo core that significantly enhanced the plasticizing capacity of the injection molding machine.
Although many companies used the screw extruder to directly injecting polymer melt into the cavity as early as 1930s. However, because extrusion pressure and speed are relatively low, it is only suitable for processing thick products with large gate. In order to make this process suitable for injection molded thin-walled products, Jackson and Church invented the two stage injection molding machine in 1948. This machine includes a screw type plasticizing device and a plunger type injection device. In 1943, H.Bech of German I.G. pigment company applied for a patent. The main innovation of the patent is to use plasticized screw as plunger for injection. The patent was approved in 1952. In the same year, W.H.Willert declared a similar patent and released it in 1956. This is the reciprocating screw injection machine that has been used up to now.
So far, although the Willert reciprocating screw injection molding machine has made great progress in performance with the progress of related technology, for example, the control mode is from manual to semi-automatic and fully automatic, transmission from mechanical to hydraulic and all electric, but its core principle has not been fundamentally changed.
